Where Nature and Architecture Nest Together

Award-winning experience venue in the heart of Nuuksio

Maisemakammi is Haltia Lake Lodge's multi-purpose event and open-fire venue, opened in August 2025 and named Finland's Best Small Event Venue at the Evento Awards 2026.

Designed by architect Malin Moisio, the space represents a new kind of "forest architecture" where form, spaces and materials are shaped by the site and nature itself. The inspiration draws from the mystique of Finnish nature and ancient sheltered "kammis" – places where people gather around fire.

The structure is embedded into the hillside so it doesn't dominate the landscape but becomes part of it. The roof is covered with forest turf, its edges blended into the terrain with rocks. From the road, the building doesn't read as a large mass – it appears more like a mystical nest. The entrance is formed by a "twig nest" assembled from wooden frames, its round opening framing the view to Lake Pitkäjärvi in Nuuksio National Park – a window from the inside, an intriguing element from the outside.

The curved steel-beam roof creates an open, high, nest-like interior (49 m²), designed to evoke a unique, almost fairytale-like atmosphere for all the senses. At its heart is a large open fireplace that brings warmth, light, sound and scent – and enables authentic open-fire cooking year-round. The natural stone floor adds timelessness and earthiness. Roof lanterns and round skylights let in light from above, like daylight filtering through moss into a nest. Acoustic panels made from surface peat, decorated with forest landscape imagery, and subtle forest soundscape elements create a calm acoustic environment. Glazing protects from wind and rain, so the space works equally well in the soft twilight of summer evenings and in the depths of a winter forest.

Everything here – architecture, design, materials and fire – is designed to create a holistic spatial experience. Just 30 minutes from Helsinki.
